Portrait Embroidery

Portrait Embroidery

Quite a while ago, we did a few portrait embroideries of celebrities – just for fun. The first one was this Seth Rogen embroidery, made for one of my best friends. After creating that, we were inspired to do a couple more! We had a few requests for Bill Murray so that was exactly what we did.

I was just dying to do one of Miss Coco Peru because we have a couple of friends who would really appreciate such a ridiculously amazing embroidery. If you don’t know Miss Coco Peru, this embroidery will probably scare the pants off of you. If you DO know her then I am sure you will be really proud.

Other embroideries I’d love to do next:

Ron Swanson of Parks & Recreation, Harry & Lloyd of Dumb & Dumber,  and the one and only Romy & Michele

Conscious Box: October

Conscious Box: October

I am so intrigued by all of the monthly subscription “boxes” that are popping up lately. I love the concept and it is so fun to get something in the mail each month! I had never seen one that I thought was right for me until I came across Conscious Box. They focus on natural, organic and environmentally friendly products. The boxes contain a variety of edibles, suppliments, home and personal care products all under the healthy and natural umbrella. I was intrigued so I signed up. My first box came this month so I thought I would give a little review and show you the goods!

What I Loved:

Clandestino – Dark Chocolate Banana Bar? I wasn’t sure I would like it. I love chocolate but I am not a fan of bananas. I tried it anyway and what do you know? It was really, really good! More chocolate than banana for sure, so, I would buy it if I came across it again!

Larabar – I already love Larabars so this was a welcomed treat. They sent a sample size which I thought was kind of lame. Why am I paying for a sample? But the bar was good and I liked the flavor they sent (Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough).

Yummy Earth – I had never heard of this brand before. The product was a small, quarter sized lollipop in Sour Apple flavor. I never eat hard candy. It just doesn’t interest me. But in the spirit of trying new things I tried it. I am now SOLD on these Yummy Earth lollipops and want to buy a whole bag!

RW Garcia Dippers – Thick and crunchy, speckled with flax seeds and covered with Mango Curry flavor, these were a really unique treat to try. I loved them and would definitely buy them!

Good Light – I used to burn candles all the time but stopped after learning that it really isn’t healthy for your air quality to do so. Having these Good Light natural candles reminds me how nice it is to light candles in the evening. I love these little tea lights but now need to get my hands on some bigger ones!

GeoDeo – I have tried a number of natural deoderants since becoming pregnant last year. The link of aluminum to cancer – especially when applied daily to your skin – was enough to make me stop imediately. Gross. Natural Deoderants, however, never really WORK the way we are used to others working. So far GeoDeo has been working great for me!!

What I Didn’t Love:

Bumble Bar – I wanted to like this adorable little bar. A natural treat made from seeds and nuts sounds ideal but it really wasn’t satisfying at all. The taste was okay (peanut butter and honey) but having a mouth full of sesame seeds was just weird.

Crum Creek  – Included in the box was their Soy Nut Mix. It’s a trail mix with dried soy beans, rasins, tiny chocolate chips and some seeds. As open as I am to natural snacks, this one was just not good. It really was like eating little crumbs. Everything was so tiny (smaller than peas) and the soy beans were tasteless and dry. I didn’t finish it.

What I Didn’t Try:

Teatulia – I love tea but can’t have caffeine right now so I couldn’t try this! The packaging looks fancy though so I imagine the tea to be really good. 🙂

Vita Rocks – These are creeping me out so I’m not going to try them. Like Pop Rocks, only vitamins? Why not just take vitamins, or better yet, eat food containing vitamins? I guess your kid is more used to eating candy than food so you must trick him.

Zarbees – This is natural cough syrup for children so we don’t have any use for this right now! Although…for a box that I paid for, it’s really annoying to see that this is a free sample on their website.

Overall, it seems it was about half and half with the hits and misses. I love the variety offered and I love discovering new products that I’ll actually want to buy more of in the future. I’m interested to see what arrives in November!

IT’S A…BABY!

I’ve been silent here on the blog for the past couple of weeks but I think you will forgive me. I have been working on something that has taken up ALL of my energy!

10That right there is a cute little baby at my 9 week ultrasound this week! I’ve been feeling great (yay, right?) but have just been super tired and along with that have lost all motivation to do anything! That has been the weirdest part for me so far. I am always doing things, making things, taking pictures. The past few weeks though, I’ve literally felt like doing nothing. I just can’t get myself going! I know it’s temporary so I’m allowing myself to just do what I need to do to keep myself healthy (hello, naps! and snacks!) and let the rest slide until I’m ready to get back into it. Which is why I let myself take a blogging break!

I recently read a great blog post “Taking It Slow” by Stephanie of The Quiet Life of Violet which talks about her thoughts and feelings of stepping away from the online world a little bit and focusing more on what is right in front of her. Allowing herself to really think about her priorities and admit that writing a blog post can seriously wait because it doesn’t matter at all in the big picture. Reading what she said, right in the moments where I was feeling pretty bad for not making anything new for the shop or writing on the blog in a week (by that point) made me feel better. It reminded me that the most important thing I can do right now is take care of my needs – which is really – my baby’s needs. Everything else can come later.

I’m so excited for this new chapter in our lives! This won’t turn into a “mommy blog” but it has always been a lifestyle blog, so I’ll share bits of this new part of my life just as I have with other parts of my life in the past! I hope you’ll stay along for the ride! 🙂

p.s. Don’t you just love that little “bum”? Ha! It’s so much cuter with that label on it! I love that she did that.

WALLFLOWERS FOR MEGAN

My cousin Eric and his wife Megan are expecting a little girl very soon!  These bright Fuchsia pink Wallflowers are going to look just awesome in the soft pink nursery.  I hope they will spark imagination and ideas in her mind as she lays in her crib and looks up at these giant, bright and magical flowers on her wall.  They are such a fun color – I know they will grow with her as she grows and still look cool even in a teenager’s room!

QUIET THANKSGIVING

QUIET THANKSGIVING

This year we had a very quiet Thanksgiving. Evan and I spent it together – just the two of us – and it was really nice! We relaxed all day, I went for a walk around town because it was so nice outside, and we had a nice candle-lit dinner. I didn’t take any pictures of our meal (it wasn’t an epic feast – just chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans!) but I took my camera on my walk around Titonka. I have a feeling it’s the last we’re going to see of these warm golden colors. It’s going to get COLD soon!!

ILE DE LA MODE

ILE DE LA MODE

For the next 5 days I am going to be with two of my best friends in a cabin on a lake in Michigan.  We all live SO far away from each other and we know that we are lucky to have maintained our bond through distance and time.  We have a yearly reunion and make it really fun and special each time.

Cabin on the lake in Michigan in July??  This one is going to top them all.

Evan and I are driving 14 hours to get there (well, we drove it a couple days ago!).
Jane and JC are driving from Atlanta, Georgia which will be a 15 hour drive.
Astrid will already be there and won’t need to drive… lucky her.  🙂

We’re going to have many campfires and light torches that keep the bugs away.

Hopefully by July, the water will be a little bit warmed up and we can float around in the lake.  If not we can still try our luck at fishing and paddle-boating.

On July 4th, there is a big sandcastle building contest!  Hopefully we can go and check that out!  It would be fun to participate except I don’t want to stand in the sun for 8 hours straight.  I’m too pale for that.

We’re going to go strawberry picking.  I want to try to make home made jam with some of the berries!!

We also get to celebrate Jane’s birthday together!!
And we’ll walk all around the town looking amazing and making everyone curious and jealous.

There is really nothing better than summer vacations.
Especially with your best friends that are more like sisters 🙂

I’m now officially on vacation until further notice!!
Which, is most likely, July 11th or so.

Maybe I’ll even get a… TAN??

{p.s. The “ile de la mode” images are scans from W magazine!  STUNNING, right??}

MISTY’S WALLFLOWERS

I just finished a set of custom Wallflowers for a little girl’s nursery!  It’s going to have grey walls and the fabrics are grey and mustard and white.  These big white Wallflowers with yellow centers are going to go above the crib!

We even went a little above and beyond with this set and made some leaves and vines so the flowers could “grow” up the wall.  I think it will look magical!  What little girl wouldn’t adore having big beautiful flowers growing up the side of her bedroom wall?!  I do hope we get to see photos of what the room looks like with the flowers!

SIOUX FALLS, SD

SIOUX FALLS, SD

I have to be honest, I have never given much thought to the state of South Dakota.  Before moving to Iowa, I might even be able to admit that I could barely remember it existed or where it was specifically located on an unlabeled map.  Once we moved to Estherville, we realized that we would be closer than we thought to states that we had never been to before.  Minnesota is only a 10 minute drive from our house, and South Dakota is just a 2 hour drive.  South Dakota!  Oh, the mystery!

We finally made a quick road trip there, just so we could say we’d been there.  To play it safe (since we had no idea what to “do” there) we went to the most touristy thing we could.  Sioux Falls.  It’s absolutely gorgeous!  And although I felt that it would have been even more impactful had it been left more “untouched” instead of perfectly groomed and side walked and tourist-friendly, still, it was a sight to behold.

Other states I’d really love to see:

Montana, Oregon, Wyoming, Colorado, Maine, Hawaii

Countries I’d really love to see:

Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Germany, Spain, Greece, Morocco, Japan, Taiwan
